Why do we use bamboo?

Bamboo has many fine and amazing qualities which makes it the perfect option for anyone to wear.  At Rimae Clothing we have taken this fabric and made fashionable and wearable clothing, which is sustainable yet desirable.  Bamboo clothing has benefits to us as well as to the environment.

Benefits to us

·         Bamboo naturally contains an anti bacterial agent within its fibre which helps to prevent bad smells from perspiration etc.  After 24 hours 75% of bad bacteria will be killed once amongst bamboo fibre.  Even after fifty times of washing, bamboo fibres still contain this anti bacterial function.

·         Bamboo has an amazing breathability action and moisture absorption.  This enables a cool feeling in the summer and a warm feeling in the winter.  Technically, this is due to the overlapping cross section of the bamboo when viewed through a microscope.

·         One of Rimae Clothing’s favourite attributes of bamboo clothing is the feel of it.  Bamboo is extremely soft and not unlike silk to touch.  It is a really beautiful fabric to wear close to your skin.

·         Bamboo fibre can effectively block the radicalization of ultraviolet radiation toward our body without causing any discomfort to your skin. The ultraviolet ray penetration rate of bamboo fibre is 0.06%; while that of cotton is 25%. The facts show that the anti-ultraviolet ray's capability of bamboo fibre is 417 times stronger than cotton.

·         The material is not statically charged so therefore is perfect for people with skin allergies, eczema etc.  When bamboo is looked at under a microscope the fibre is spherical which means it will not irritate the skin unlike many man made fibres which are jaggedly when looked at under a microscope.

Benefits to the environment

·         As a lot of people know bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, it can grow as much as three feet over night!  This is what makes our clothing sustainable.  As the bamboo plant is being used to make fabric, more bamboo is continuously growing, so therefore not damaging the environment.

·         Bamboo fibre is manufactured without any chemical additives so it can therefore be completely decomposed in the soil making it 100% environmentally friendly.

·         Better for the environment as bamboo is 100% naturally grown and 100% sustainable and is 100% biodegradable.
